The Secret to Life 27.1.06

Is to constantly redesign your blog!

Heh, just kidding. Sort of.

Anyway, after requests from millions of daily readers for a change to the site (or maybe from three people who visit once a month), and after realizing that my molecular genetics class really kicks ass, here’s what I’ve got. Cookie points if you can name each molecule on this page (two in the logo, one at the bottom) without looking them up.

What's this? Sage bowing to public pressure?

And why haven't you changed the font of this < textarea >?

I think the molecules are amino acids, but I couldn't be sure and I couldn't name them. What with it being 10 years since I last studied Chemistry, and 17 years since I last studied Biology!

I have no control over the Post a Comment page – that’s all Blogger-controlled.

As for the molecules, the title of this post is a huge hint.

You know, Chemistry isn’t my thing. But that’s ok, sticking to a design isn’t yours.
:-P

I do like the grey on black, though. It’s much easier to read when you’re really tired. But then you come to this bloody Post a Comment page that’s really bright!

Secret to Life = DNA, no? Thus, the molecules are Guanine and Cytosine (you don’t even really need to know the molecular structure of them to know what they – notice the three hydrogen bonds between them, and notice the dR, which stands for deoxyribose), and the one at the bottom is Uracil. The Archives guy is none other than Francis Crick (notice he’s holding a DNA model).

I got the Secret to Life = DNA bit, but I didn’t remember the names of the molecules so I ignored your question.

Jeeze.

Hey, you got a free science lesson. :-p I normally charge $15/hour for tutoring, you lucky moocher!

Damn, there’s a typo in my previous comment, and there’s no, like, Edit function for comments. Sucky Blogger thingy.

Ooh, f2o is open now? Coolies! I’ve been waiting forever.

Blogger Sage 31.1.06

Except it’s going to mess up my Uracil.
:-(

Oh, thank god, I wanted to make a new address! :-D Thanks for mentioning that.

Sage, don't you have comment moderation on? Jeez!

I found out the names of the molecules, but since the task was to name them without looking them up, I kept schtum. Oh, and the Secret to Life thing was fairly obvious once I stopped trying to name them by looking.

Did my comment about it being 17 years since I stopped studying Biology prompt your GTP Age thread?

Naw – I’d rather delete individual spam than making everybody use the type-these-letters thingy.

Did my comment about it being 17 years since I stopped studying Biology prompt your GTP Age thread?

Heh heh, no! :-D I was looking at somebody’s profile on GTP, and their birthday was in 1991, and I thought “Isn’t he too young to be on here?”, then I realized that he’s only three years younger than me.

I liked the design that looked like a "menu that you'd see in a basement pub that's desperately trying to become the latest, greatest "café bar", but which is only succeeding in serving up microwaved rat burgers in a cheap morning roll, and charging £7.50, because they claim it's actually "hand-minced Aberdeen Angus". better.

You do know about serif fonts right? It's the blind that make them illegible on screen, du'h!
