A Few Things 4.2.06
- I just noticed that ABC News uses Google Earth whenever they need maps. Neat!
- How to look like an ass in the name of Allah. I can’t believe some of the crap going on (in the 21st century!) in the name of religion. Yeah, we atheists are the menaces of society, while them ideological folks can go destroy all the shit they want. (If you haven’t picked it up from all my cursing, I’m really pissed about this nonsense.)
- Today I test-drove a Mazda 3, and loved it so much that it’s going to be my next car. My dad has put down a deposit on one that will be delivered here in a couple weeks – a titanium gray 5-speed manual Mazda 3 i with the Touring and ABS/SAB/SAC packages. Hurray!

How can you afford that with a $20 grant? :-P
Congrats, though. Are you keeping your current car?

Trust me, the budget was tight – we had to get a Mazda 3 i instead of an s, and my dad’s spending ceiling was $16,000, and this car cost $16,340… he was about to not get it, but I offered to pay the $340. That’s how tight it was – $340 is practically nothing in car terms, but he was just about ready to turn down that car because of that.

Well, I’m currently driving a 2000 Outback, which is really my mom’s car – she’s driving my 1993 Ranger right now. Once we get the Mazda, the Outback will go to my mom, and we’ll probably get rid of the Ranger. That thing’s simply not worth insuring anymore – it’s literally worth about $600.

You couldn’t get the price down any lower?

The dealer we were at had a no-haggle policy – they offer all of their cars at whatever price CarsDirect.com offers (which, for the Mazda 3, was about $500 below MSRP). Fine with me, since the local Honda dealer has a 10% markup over MSRP.
